Name
Contact Address
Phone Number/s

Whether you want to be a Mentor or Mentee

We have already received responses from students who would like to be involved so it looks like it should be a productive program for 2008! Hi All,

By way of introduction my name is Bryan Hogan, and I am your Off Campus Vice President for 2008.  That means I'll be representing the interests of Off Campus students to both the University and the Student Union.  I'll be doing that along with the Off Campus Students Association (OCSA) which is the representative body for OC Students.

We have a lot in store for this year, some of which have already begun;
  • Free Flash Drive promotion
  • eO Week
  • Online Community
  • Scholarships/Bursaries
  • Buddy Program
  Just to name a few.

Its all about giving you the opportunity to participate in the community as much or as little as you want.

In the mean time, I'd encourage you to head over to the Off Campus facebook group.  Just search for "Monash University Off Campus Students".

If you want to become a member of the Off Campus Students Association, or have any questions etc, please contact me at mugsu.ocvp@general.monash.edu.au

Cheers
Bryan

Curious as to whether people received everything they were expecting to receive in the mail-out to OC students from OCLC?? Let us know your thoughts on how this service can be improved!!

Last year I studied psy1022 [RDA] thru Open Uni - Monash provider. Booklist specified Gravetter and Wallnau, Statistics for the Behavioual Sciences 7ed & Research Methods for Psychology as companion guide...$121.46 - no mention of a package [+ Study Guide + SPSS Student Version]
This year, the package is worth $132.25
My problem is - I now have the text book, but no Study Guide or SPSS package
so, buy Study Guide separately - $39.55 - but no SPSS CD! There is no option to purchase Study Guide AND CD
SPSS Student Version 15.0 - mmm pay around...$108 - WHAT? Shouldn't that be $18.86 - This doesn't make sense as further research shows
Title: Spss V.15 (to Be Packed With Text)
Author: Spss
Publisher: Thomson International
Availability: Available
Member Price: $18.86 Price: $20.96 (check it out yourself! - http://www.coop-bookshop.com.au/bookshop (search SPSS 15; page search results 125-150)
As a distance student, with no access to University campus - I consider this as both a rip off and discrimination

As a fellow student, I know how much it sucks when that happens.... The only thing I can think of is if you sell your current textbook second-hand and get the package - www.textbookexchange.com.au is a great site for off campus students to buy and sell their books second hand... I did a quick search and found several books "SPSS 15"... or you could even just try and find the guide and CD-ROM on textbookexchange.com.au.... just a few ideas to try and combat the crappy way companies monopolise on students at their expense!!!! Best of luck and let us know how you go!

I searched Monash bookshop and found 'Statistics for the Behavioural Sciences Study Guide + SPSS ver 15'! - $57.56 [with a Status: "May be available to order] + postage $10
This still works out to be a better deal than having to purchase a new/duplicate text just to get the study guide & CD
Looking at secondhand book supplies, it seem many students have/are trying to offload duplicate texts...
However, the above is only thru Caulfield bookshop as they have already placed an order with books due instore in approx 7 days [obviously other students have researched & requested this package].
ISBN: 0170155897
Caulfield Phone: 99032147
I am cautious about secondhand CD's as there is a license of 4 years - so if it is activated - I don't know if it would work on a second PC
A piece of trivial info - New to This Edition:
"...  updated for release 15 of the software and the new version of the General Social Survey. New datafiles are available for exercises."

Hope this can help someone else!

ah the joys of being a student at Monash!! Anyone else been on a 'wild goose chase' with study related issues? I know I myself have many stories to tell... What faculty are you from? do they give consistent good advice or do they change their mind each time you talk to them?? Vent your experiences/frustrations here!!

Welcome all Buddy Program participants!!!
How are you all going so far? Make sure you check out the e O-week stuff that your Off Campus vice president has organised at www.eoweek.com - there is a major comp with clues every day...
Have you received all of your unit materials so far?
Have you been in contact with your lecturer to touch base?
Have you been able to access either new or second hand copies of the required texts?

Let us know your thoughts on being an off campus student!!
