The Off Campus Students' Association: Committee of Management represents off campus students within MUGSU. The Committee is chaired by the Off Campus Vice President who is a member of the MUGSU Board of Management and involves 7 student representatives and some staff representatives in an ex-officio capacity. By meeting via teleconference once each month and communicating by email in between times the Committee manages to stay well informed and able to respond to students’ concerns. The Committee makes decisions regarding services and resources, gives students a voice in Monash affairs and lobbies state and federal governments for adequate funding and administration of higher education.
The Off Campus Vice President is primarily responsible for representing the interests of off campus students within MUGSU, liaising with students and the University about off campus services and contributing to off campus publications. In addition are their responsibilities as a Vice President of the MUGSU Board to ensure the continued accountable operation of the Union and its services and to represent students’ concerns to Monash and the wider community. Student representatives on the Committee provide a direct contact point for students seeking advice, counsel and representation. They act as advocates for individual and collective student views and opinions and then seek outcomes as determined by and with students. Students are kept informed of the progress and status of issues, the activities of the Union and Monash through individual contact, collective emails, the MUGSU website and publications. Representatives generally spend a few hours per month on Committee matters but would like to hear more from students. Most representatives have a freecall telephone number and email address and are appointed as contact person for a particular state/territory. MUGSU needs your feedback on services or concerns to improve students’ experiences generally and to allow all students to make the most of opportunities available to them. |
