Many students have feelings of isolation or loneliness while at University.

Some of the common reasons for these feelings are:

  • Moving away from home onto Monash Residence or town
accommodation where you don't know anyone
  • Studying off campus with little face-to-face contact with other
    students and staff
  • Feeling you don't fit in with students around you
  • You are in the throes of a long-term postgraduate research project

These feelings tend to be worse when:

  • You are just commencing your studies and have not yet discovered
the networks of other students and staff
  • You have other problems such as homesickness or difficulty with studies

these feelings; as can getting involved in online forums; on-campus social activities
and volunteer programs.
